• hi betta people! I have had my fish Finnick for about 8-10 months now. when I bought him he looked like the first picture, the second picture happened between January and now. he is in a 3.5 gallon tank with a snail, water is kept around 78-80°, and he has biweekly 25-50% water changes. he seems perfectly healthy apart from the color change. has anyone seen anything like this before? he looks like a different fish!

I’m not sure it’s necessarily a good sign that he’s loosing his color. It doesn’t look very white to me it looks more like he just lost his color. He looks more “translucent” now which is why I’m sort of concerned. Usually that’s what bettas look like when you buy them from the store and then the first slide is what they usually “transform” into.

I’m not an expert by any means but this is just what I observed and know based on what I’ve learned over the years.

  2. He’s very beautiful! Yes, it’s very normal for bettas to change colors throughout their life

  3. You could try dosing with paracleanse in case it’s a bacterial problem! I recently did a round on my tank and everyone came out fine. It may reduce beneficial bacteria but you can just test your water to make sure it’s ok

  4. I’ve seen something similar happen due to ammonia poisoning. Any redness on the gills? You said he seems happy and active, which doesn’t sound like ammonia poisoning behavior, but I would still test your parameters just to be safe 🙂
