Hi all, my wife and I just got a new female half moon with our tax return (hence the middle name lol) and we had her all set up in a 5 gallon tank with some live plants, a moss ball, and a snail friend who she seems interested in but not threatened by. We are novice fish owners so weâve done a ton of research, but one thing we werenât prepared for is her flaring at her own reflection in the sides of her tank. Earlier in the day when the LEDs were on and it was super reflector she was actually flaring at herself, but now even with the lights off and a little less reflective sheâs still going over to the sides and interacting with herself but she doesnât seem to be actually flaring (video included).
Iâm hoping someone could tell us if this is ok or if she seems stressed out, and how to fix/help her? Iâll add a picture of some window film weâve used on a glass pane in our house to see if that might be something we could put on the outside of the sides of the tank to make them less reflective. Would that be a good idea?
Other than this she seems to be doing really well, sheâs gotten way brighter since taking her out of the cup she was in at the pet store! Photos included in a reply hopefully since I canât have a video and pictures I guess!
Thanks for helping out some newbies!

Here is her before
Fluval 9? I love this tank.
I had this same problem. I added black paper to the back of my tank and he was good after that .
