This is my favorite fish Bonnie (named after Bonnie Mulligan since she got her Tony the day I brought the fish home … and the fish looks like a Bonnie). Sadly after the stress of moving houses follows by several days of no power where we had to manually manage the tank, she passed. I was heart broken.

My husband and I decided to wait a bit before getting new fish. However, now the tank (65 gal) is fully settled and we aren’t traveling so we are ready to get something new. I very much want another Bonnie. Her little goofy face and the way she follows you around the tank brought me great joy.

However, my husband doesn’t want another centerpiece fish. He wants to get some pretty schooling fish. Don’t get me wrong, I want that too but I really want another Bonnie too.

Now Bonnie was harmless. She would chase swimy fish a lot but would never hurt them. They would just go to a different part of the tank and Bonnie would move on with her life for a bit.

My husband thinks this is too aggressive and stressful for the other fish. We currently don’t have swimmy fish in that tank right now (we have Rope Fish , Cory Doras, Plecos, and Snails).

So my question is, can anyone either help convince my husband that Bonnie annoying the other fish wasn’t a problem and a Bonnie jr will be fine (especially if we have stuff vertically in the tank that allows for separation/hiding) or give me some recommendations for derpy/personality fish that are more peaceful?

He has his heart set on schooling fish and I have mine set on a Bonnie jr so I hope there is a way we both get what we want. However, he is the primary caretaker of the tank so he gets final say.

Thanks!

Have you taken him to meet the peaceful fish? They’re really lacking in personality, comparatively. But I will say that badis and killifish make great tiny companions.
