Years ago I added a crayfish to a community tank that I had. Destroyed and ate all of the plants, terrorised the other fish. Brought him back to my LFS a few months later, significantly larger, and they gave me a store credit. Never again.

You will get people Reddit telling you that some crayfish are totally friendly and can be kept with anything and everything without problem
Theyâre utterly wrong, of course

This jail is so cool! I had the same experience except mine was a female and she was berried and not long after I brought her home she had all her 20 thousand kids!!
She passed away last month after two years (RIP Nori) but I still have 3 of her sons! They each have a tank, one of them I took to work and everyone loves him!

Ha. At the start of the crayfish & shrimp craze, I did a lot of research (or as little that was known at the time). I kept my crayfish seperate in a different tank. Researched my shrimp and added them to the community tank. Was only concerned about the fish eating the shrimp. Then one day, I saw this interesting looking medium sized shrimp and thought it would be big enough and safe, just like my bamboo shrimp. Noticing it’s large claws, somehow it not registered to me I bought a predator shrimp (prawn)! I lost so many fish (I was into small and nano fish), including a large group of fish that were very rare at the time. My aquarium was never the same after, once the shrimp died I kept other fish, and I was never able to get more of my fav, rare fish it killed off.
Once we make this mistake, never again!

throwing a larger crayfish into a tank like that is like dropping godzilla into a crowded city
Love the jail thing, itâs like a fishtank inside a bigger fishtank. What sort of thing is that?

I think itâs just luck of the draw. I currently have dwarf crayfish and neos living in a 10gallon and both are reproducing. I also have a large electric blue crayfish thatâs being living with 6 yoyo loaches, mollies, minnows, angels, and rasboras and they all do great.
I really think it has to a lot with how they are raised with they are around other animals. My baby dwarfs eat beside the shrimps and they could care less

They are cray-zy. Had one. When I got near the aquarium it came to the glass with its claws raised like a threat to me.
