(Not my photo) Im relatively new to fly fishing. I bought a 7/8wt combo last year to get started and I can't get enough. Dry fly is defo my favourite way of fishing and I mostly fish small scottish stillwater fisheries. I decided to pick up my second rod mostly for dry flies and emergers. Ive just ordered the daiwa silvercreek x 9ft 5wt and 5/6wt reel and going to load it with wychwood series 2 connect feather floater line. Is this a decent enough setup? And any tips would be greatly appreciated, Cheers.

Personally I size up rod and line for Stillwater because you are having to go for distance all on your own. Also, you need to make sure your rod is stiff enough to cast a bunch of line. That daiwa says it’s a little on the stiff side of medium, which will probably be good enough.
I throw a TFO 7wt 9′ myself, but I’m going after spotted and smallmouth bass. Its action (moderate) is a little slow for ponds when I’m trying to reach out (Or maybe I just suck at casting), but is great when swinging streamers in a current.
