I knowingly added parasites to my aquarium! (Its not what it seems!)

In this video, I’m doing something that might seem counterintuitive to many aquascape enthusiasts. I’m knowingly adding parasites to my aquarium. But before you think I’ve lost my mind, let me explain that it’s not what it seems. The fish we are introducing today have a parasite but not in the standard sense. Whether you have a nano aquarium or a fully planted aquarium these little tetra will normally get on well. We have lost a few aquarium plants in this fish tank recently but we explain all of that in the video.

  1. Just saw these in my local Maidenhead. Very interesting little fish. Hope you and your wife are getting some sleep with the new baby! Thanks matt ā¤

  2. 3:01 Mat, I am curious why you don’t put a few corse sponges first then the finer sponges second on each time instead of all corse then all fine. Is it just because it doesn’t make any difference?

  3. Definitely thinking about picking up an oase biomaster 2. Been running my 60 gallon as a setup for African butterfly fish with just sponge filters, and it’s been great for years, but I’m wanting to switch it to a more riverine setup for longfin banded hill trout. They’re such beautiful and active fish, and I think it would be really cool to have them with some vampire shrimp and hillstream loaches.

  4. I tend to just chuck my smaller botanicals in the tank to sink on their own. If there's too much in the way of tannins, I stick some purigen & charcoal in the filter overnight. I really only boil large or woody stuff.

  5. I have a group of them for about three years. Bought it golden. Now they are silver. With a reflecting middlestripe in the light. A little like black neon. They were hiding a lot until i mixed them with pencil fish.

  6. Really like them (i have this fish on the wish list) with a nice black water such as yours they shine very much, btw i'm finishing to cycle my 350 liters (the upgrade of my 110 liters), can't wait to add fish in it, what kind of fish may i add in it besides my Apistogramma viejita and a pair of Bristle Nose Pleco? As the shoaling fish i'm planning Rummy Nose tetras and Corydoras Orange Venezuela on the bottom, what other cichlids may I add? I was thinking Angel Fish Manacapuru Red Back

  7. I fell in love with the gold color of them and bought 8 of them. BUT I didn't know the full story about the parasites. And if I had known then I can't say for sure if I would've risked it. Even for love. I guess it's a great thing I bought them first. LOL šŸ˜‚. I still love the little buggers.
    P.S. mine never bred. 😢
