Hi everyone,
I’ve tried to do a lot of research in the last week but am clearly no where near being an expert. This is the current setup of my tank while I cycle it. Please let me know if there’s anything I should adjust or remove or add. I got the topfin 10gallon tank kit for now as a beginner. I also have been boiling driftwood for the past two hours but not knowing if I should add it.
Anyways, I’d appreciate the honesty but please be nice as this is my absolute first time getting a fish.
Thanks!!

Hi! This is a very peaceful set up, its a solid start!
The green plants under the tiki head look like they might be made of plastic. You should remove these as they could easily rip betta fins. Ideally live plants are always best BUT for fake plants only do silk 🙂
Your heater shouldn’t be touching your substrate nor should it be exposed, try putting it horizontal across the back so it evenly distributes heat and you don’t risk shorting it out when* the water line drops!
What are your using as an ammonia source for your cycle? Do you have a test kit? (if so, what kind?)
The first comment has a lot of good information, just waved to add a few things.
1. For the wood you can keep boiling or add it but it may still float for a few days. That’s normal.
2. Live plants are AWESOME and have so many benefits, but you may accidentally kill a lot of them and get frustrated, also normal. Just keep researching and you’ll figure it out eventually.
3. Good luck, your tank looks cute so far 🙂
