This is my tank. I’ve been letting it cycle for a few weeks. Of course I’m gonna let it cycle for probably another month before I put anything in it but I’m thinking I’m going to have some celestial pearl danios, but I don’t know what I want for a centerpiece fish.

I’ve successfully had betas in a community tank before I’ve learned that they have to be longfin so it’s harder for them to chase the nano fish. Of course this tank is running CO2 and it will be heavily planted by the time I decided to add fish in it but as of lately, I’ve taken a liking the sparkling goramis but I don’t know if they’re gonna stand out as much as a beta would. This is a 24gal tank and the back will be filled with plants before I put anything in it!

I am also open to any other additional advice that you want to give. I’m always looking to improve my fishes quality of life 🙂

  1. Bettas can go either way in a com tank. Sparkling Gouramis are a safer bet imo. Tank is looking good!

I’d get sparkling gouramis, they’re incredibly pretty and make the most amazing noises; they only grow to about 1” so you could have a small group of them which they’d appreciate.

Then thinking of those reminded me of Croaking Gouramis, which grow a bit bigger, about 3.5”, but you can still keep a small group of them in a 24 gallon! Theyre not as sparkly as the others; but they’re attractive, I think they look like wild Bettas, with bright blue eyes and even louder voices than the tiny ones😊

  3. I personally love gouramis and would do another tank of them in a heart beat

Gouramis and Bettas love floating plants I’ve noticed, gives them cover to breath at the surface

  4. I have 6 sparkling gourami in a 37 gallon 🥰 the noises they make are surprisingly loud! I can hear them from down the hall.
They get along with all of the other nano residents. The only ones they bully are each other. Their colors are very understated, but when the light hits them just right, it’s a beautiful iridescence. They get a slight orange tinge on their fins, too!

Edit: if you have multiple gourami, make sure you have some sight breaks! I thinned out my water lettuce, not realizing how much the roots were helping with aggression. There was a small war 😅
