So I found this Cortland reel, well half of a Cortland reel. It hadn’t bee out for very long. From what I found it’s in their Crown Series reels. But what I’m perplexed by is the set up on it. There is no fly line only tippet material and there is a section of red line with a piece tied to it that moves freely. I will try to take as best of photos as I can.

But I want to know more about this set up like what it is and what it’s for or how to use it. I am thinking maybe some sort of tenkara like set up, why would the take off half the reel? Also is there a way I could get just the back half of the reel inexpensive and have a new reel. I’ve tried posting that I found it on local forums and have no luck on finding the owner.

  1. Looks like maybe a spare spool. As for the mess of line on it, i can’t imagine any practical application. Regardless, without the other half of the reel it’s pretty useless.
