When I was younger, I mostly fished with cheaper Shakespeare and Zebco combos, usually under $40. Now that I’m older and can spend a little more, I want to get a solid beginner-friendly setup that’ll last and let me see how much I get back into fishing before I start buying higher-end gear.

I mainly want to fish for bass and definitely want to start with a spinning rod. My budget is around $150 for the combo.

The setup I’m currently looking at is:

Daiwa Aird X Spinning Rod (Medium Heavy / Fast)

+

Daiwa Revros LT 2500

Does that sound like a good starter bass setup, or would y’all go a different route around that price point?

Appreciate any advice on rod power/action, reel size, or other combos y’all think would be better.

I also already have a light/medium spinning rod I can use for crappie, perch, and bluegill, so this setup would mainly be for bass.

Yah I used that reel on my drop shot rig and I have the 4000s on my heavier set ups

I have 3 Revros reels, couldn’t be happier with them, I’ve bought the reels for 50, and got lucky and found one at bimart with a daiwa rod for 55 a few months ago.

IMO, it’s perfect. Some say go with the regal as it is the better reel, but having owned both, there’s not a huge difference. Regal is a bit lighter with more bearings tho.
