Been using this baby for a little over a year now, love this thing! Only 5' very light weight quick action and it is a beast for float fishing top water and pretty much anything for small to medium fish. My line of choice is 40 lb power pro all day my only issue I seem to really have is when im wanting to drop in a senko I can't seem to ever have any luck for me, its really difficult to tell if im hitting bottom or any general sense of feel except for an occasion feel some tugging but I worry that 40lb braid may not be ideal and have been looking into different options like a fluro leader. Would this work for this setup?

  1. With 40lb braid you could certainly handle a 30lb weight which would find the bottom very easily.

Depends on what you’re fishing for, but it’s fine. I know that might go against everyone’s dedicated self fishing bible of fish psychology and things they haven’t tried themselves, but I use bright orange 65lb braid at my local lake, and I catch a wide variety of freshwater species of all sizes big and small.

  3. That’s way too much line for nearly any freshwater fish. It will limit the action of finesse baits, limit casting distance, and may be more visible to fish and discourage bites. I only go that heavy for blue water saltwater fishing. Anything inshore or freshwater and I’m under 20lb. My go-to rod/reel is a 7’6 Medium/Fast rod, 2500 size reel, and 10lb braid. That’s a 90% solution for anything I’m likely to encounter. Of the remaining 10%, 8% calls for a lighter setup, and 2% calls for heavier.

  4. Idk if this is a troll post but yeah you don’t need 40lb. I don’t even use 40lb muskie fishing lol. Diabolical to tie the braid right to the lure too, if you’re not yanking our chains here downgrade to 20lb with a few feet 15-20lb flouro or even mono leader. Anything but braid to bait lol
