Don’t bother with shitty fly rods, even out of curiosity…

  1. I have a $35 eagle claw that’s really nice. But at this point, you might just want to get a bamboo pole from Walmart my guy. $2.

  2. I’ve caught thousands of bluegill on cheap fly rods including some real tanks and never broke a rod. I don’t think that’s the problem. You damaged that rod somehow

Every rod made has some owners that break them.
Sometimes it’s the rod, sometimes it’s the owner.

For me it was always the owner.

Naw dude. I catch bass on topwater with a very cheap 5wt, had that rod banging around inside my truck with a bunch of tools and shit. It’s still fine. Yours was cracked

Literally, the most chill stoner hookset, on the first cast with the new rod.

This was also the cheapest rod I could find to test out. I’ve had some max catch gear that’s really cool and has been very durable.

I tried my buddy’s fly rod that he got from a ~$35 kit at Walmart. That thing can really cast and unironically feels well balanced

But don’t confuse “shitty” with “cheap”…. There is a difference. Most (but not all) shitty rods are cheap but not all cheap rods are shit.

My thrift shop Scientific Anglers works just as well as my nicer Sage and Orvis rods for sunfish and bass…and trout.

This junk was right out the box. This was also the cheapest rod I could find to test out. I’ve had some excellent maxcatch gear, but was trying to find out how cheap I could go.

    Those little fuckers fight hard.

    But I’ve never had a bluegill snap a rod. Even a $50 1 wt.
