Betta Fish: anyone else test the water your fish came in?

i got a new fish today, wasn’t planning on it but when i saw hed been their so long and seemingly blind in one eye, and chewed off his fins i took him home anyway because i didn’t want him to pass knowing i could’ve helped. i have a spare tank that’s almoast cycled for him, for the time being he’s staying in a 3 gal with his plants and a filter on my desk. i belive he may be a sibling to another betta in bad condition i got about 3 weeks prior, barbosa. barbosa was basically dead when i got him, but he made a (almoast) full recovery and is now one of my sweetest, and social bettas. he stays with my elderly ramshorn snail lilac, mystery snail cosmic, 6 ghost shrimp ( i call them all swimothy and swimone cuz i can’t tell who is who.) and two baby guppies barbie and barbara. the shrimp and guppies were attempts to get him to eat, but he befriended/parented them instead so now they live together. he had the babies since they were 4 hours old and they’re finally developing colour 🥹 i think they might be siblings because they look around the same age, and have been their about the same amount of time, they look just like eachother in the face aswell but i’ll never know. i tested the water he came in, and it was horrendous. first pic is him, other two are barbosa.
