Sure fishing in very strong waves I could not keep my high/low rig out long enough to catch anything. My rod can handle 3 oz but quickly washed back to the beach. I got 3 oz Sputnik weights hoping to keep my rig from washing back to the beach too soon. Does anyone have any similar experiences or use Sputnik weights?

The the barbs folded like that, its not going to stay put. The point of that weight is that the barbs stick out and catch the sand. Bend them out about 45 degrees so they catch the sand as you reel in.
I fish the west coast of NZ, bend the fingers out 45, and on retrieve give a quick “pop” to release it. Work nice as.
That will hold like the equivalent of about 8-10oz of lead. They work fantastic for high energy surf.
That said, I agree with the other folks, that’s not going to do anything unless you bend the arms out to 45 degrees. Google some pictures and it’ll show you what it should look like. For storage, rotate them around other way.
