I bought Cosmo and Wanda a few weeks ago. As you can see Wanda was heavily gravid, they wasted no time. First night in the tank they spawned. I was very excited as I figured it would be a long while before they were comfortable enough to do so. Anyway, 8 days later and my little fry started swimming out. I counted 5 initially and had 2 survive, but as soon as Cosmo came out from fanning they went back and immediately spawned again. Very sadly Wanda passed due to a very aggressive bacterial infection, but today the second clutch of eggs started swimming out. Before I left for work I counted a total of 7 fry swimming around including the two from the first clutch. Poor Cosmo hasn’t eaten in almost 3 weeks (he takes is fatherly duties very seriously). Fun fact I learned after doing some research; peacock gudgeons will mate themselves to death. Nervously awaiting his emergence from the cave hoping he doesn’t go into a ravenous rampage and pick off all his young. I didn’t have time to set up a secondary tank for the fry. I was very upset to lose Wanda so quickly she began to recognize me very quickly and she always greeted me at the glass. Hoping to get at least 1 female from these clutches so her lineage can live on. Funny how you get into this hobby for something relaxing but it is mildly stress inducing. 😅
