So I ordered this anubia, it was already tied to the wood, and it started withering away by the time i opened the parcel already. Can it be saved? What can i do? The other plants are doing fine…

I’ve never grown anubia, however the rhizome looks very healthy to me.

If it were in my tank, I wouldn’t be worried unless I saw the rhizome start to degrade.

I’m convinced that anubia survive anything. I found 2 that were out of water for at least 4 months, i cut off all dead leaf and added them to my tank, they’re doing well. Trying cutting off the leaves and you should save it

  3. Unfortunately I don’t think you will be able to save it. I got 4 of recently. All seemed alright except one I noticed had a bit of floppy leaves and stems just like yours and had a bit of a bad smell. I still put it in my tank to see if it would make it. After a couple weeks the leaves started moving in the current and falling off. The whole stem was rotten. If it rots out there no way to save it from what I’ve found. It’s one thing for the stem/roots or leaves to be cut, dried out a bit, or have damage they can survive that many times but once it’s rotten it’s not going to come back. I would remove any rotten or mushy parts of yours soon before it impacts your tank in possibly negative ways. If there is a healthy none rotten part that may still make it. I could very clearly tell a difference in smell of my tank one I removed my rotten one.

  4. Look for black parts or soft parts that indicate rot on the rhizome (the main ‘stalk’ of the plant where the roots and leaves branch off). If there is a soft part you can try to cut it off and the rest may come back, Also cut any soft roots, branches or leaves. You can do a hydrogen peroxide dip after the cut or seal cut off parts with super glue.

If it is rot it can spread to other anubias in the tank.

If this plant was just purchased and it was cultivated out of water this could be a melt off due to adjusting to being underwater. In that case cut the leaves off and let it grow back.

If it looked like this out of the package I would return it.
