Hey all, was fishing a reservoir in Maryland today where it was warm (low 80s) and I *believe* is prespawn still for the LMB here. I found a little cove area that seemed extremely active- splashing everywhere. I even saw a something try eating a bird lol. It was a rocky and gravelly shallow area so I thought it was jackpot for bass migrating to spawn.

I sight casted to where the splashes are and where I could visibly see fish. Even when I was dead on and literally landed stuff on their heads, no bite. They just sat right next to it. I tried flukes, Ned rigs with paddle tails, jigs w craw trailers, and even senkos but no bites.

I’m used to fishing smallmouth in rivers and not these reservoirs so I did some research and it looks like these were most likely snakeheads and carp splashing around (or that carp was the biggest LMB I’ve ever seen). It seems that to get them to bite I need to be a bit more stealthy and also use chatterbaits or spinner baits next time.

So mainly curious

1) Do you know if snakeheads coexist in the same spawning area as bass? I’m not sure if I got no bass bites because the snakeheads were all congregated there and the bass left.

2) What are your strategies for catching snakeheads? It seems normal that they get spooked so I’ll try different methods next time. What would you throw here? There’s also lotttts of dead wood between me and them.

Added some images for context but as pointed out (edit) they’re pretty bad lol sorry. Thanks in advance!

Edited to make questions clear.

  1. I don’t mean to be an ass here, but it’s quite literally impossible to tell from you photos.
