I’m pretty sure a spinning reel is supposed to lock aligned with the rod but when I flip the bail on mine it keeps going and locks diagonally. How do I fix this?

Line it up and then open it. It will open wherever is is when you flip the bail

From the looks of it you could probably buy a new one rather than attempt to fix this old thing
