Hello,
I'm just getting back into fishing and I'm trying out bass fishing after mostly trout fishing as a kid.
Yesterday I was trying out my new Choppo 90 and I was having a really hard time getting it to plop. I had to really reel my baitcaster and speed retrieve just to sometimes get it to plop, otherwise it would pull through the water just below the surface. The water was calm with some very light wind. I had it on braid to fluoro leader, which I know sinks, but I'm not sure if it should pull the lure down that much (it's only a few feet). I do have some mono I can use as a leader, but it'll be a bit before I can get back on the water to try and I wanted to know if I have a defective lure so I can return it. I read they can sometimes get a small crack and fill with water.
I took some pictures of it floating in a bowl of water and just the head is barely above water. I don't have any other top waters to compare it to so I don't know if that's normal or not.
Thank you for any help.
I'm posting from my mobile so sorry if the formatting is weird. I don't post to reddit very often, so sorry if I broke any rules.

You don’t need to run a leader for top water fishing. Idk if that’s what’s causing it to sink, but it’s worth a try to see if you get better results
