I’m pretty new to fishing and don’t know how to fish this area.

If you have any tips can you show me a picture of the bait, jig, or lure of anything. I don’t know the names too well yet

  1. Top water or floating style lure…looks pretty shallow and snaggy. Clear shallow water like that the fish are likely to be spooky. Wouldnt be my first choice to fish there.

There are two or three things that immediately come to mind. If you’re not fishing for bass, you can probably ignore all three:

Texas Rig: using a worm or creature bait, and a bullet sinker just heavy enough to keep contact with the bottom. Drag or hop the lure along the bottom, varying the distance/speed of your movement, as well as the length of the pause between movements. Make sure you’re reeling in your slack line each time you move the bait so you can feel if a bass picks it up.

    Spinnerbaits

In clearer water like that, I like white or white/black flake and two willow-shaped blades. Cast it out, let it sink for a second or two, then reel it in. Again, you can experiment with your retrieve speed, adding pauses, and how long it sinks before you begin your retrieve.

    Weightless Fluke

Cast it out, let it fall, twitch it a couple times, let it fall some more, repeat. Make sure you’re reeling in some of the slack line between twitches (like the Texas rig) so you can feel and react to bites.

Lots of vegetation, probably something single hooked and covered, I would toss a paddle tail, I really like this one a lot: [https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Suicide_Shad_Swimbait/descpage-BBBSS.html](https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Suicide_Shad_Swimbait/descpage-BBBSS.html), get a screw hook or if you really wanna wow them, an underpin blade jig. I prefer the 3.5 inch of the link I provided and then whatever the smaller size is of an underpin, [https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Buckeye_Lures_Su-Spin_Blade/descpage-BSUS.html](https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Buckeye_Lures_Su-Spin_Blade/descpage-BSUS.html) this one is good.
On occasion, if I have a light set up like what I got right now, I will go with just a screw lock and a size 4 hook, I can fling that thing pretty well, the weight from the underpin lets me throw hail Mary’s.

That is super shallow. I would use a free lined weedless jig head and work it through the water by popping it off the bottom.

Topwater is always good. Use a topwater jerkbait. Rapala makes some good ones.

Alternatively, a 1/16 jighead, weedless if you can find one, under a bobber with a very short leader – like 8” or so to keep the jighead just off the bottom. Put a 3” Gulp minnow on the jighead.

Fish don’t really like to be up that shallow in clear water because it makes easy for overhead predators to see them and they have no where to dive to if attacked. So if you can, move to deeper water and fish the bottom.

If the water gets murkier, fish the line between the clear and murky water. For lures use silvery colors for bright clear water when sunny, natural colors in clearer waters (especially when overcast), and blues and blacks in deeper murkier waters.

Face into the sun if possible so you don’t cast a shadow into the water.

  5. All that chara is a real pain

Buzz bait, frog, or top water is your best bet. Buzz baits are my favorite.

Look for any sort of ledge. Bass will hang out in that thick stuff, waiting to ambush.

We have a lot of this in our pond, I’m trying to remedy. It’s a pain
