I’m concerned about a situation involving my sister’s friend, who recently purchased two male betta fish without proper preparation. She does not have cycled tanks , heaters or proper filtration. She is currently keeping them in very small bowls, with the intention of eventually housing them together. As is widely known among experienced betta owners, male bettas are highly territorial and will fight, often to the death, if kept together.
This setup is not appropriate for their health or well-being. I’m hoping to highlight the seriousness of this issue and encourage her to reconsider her approach so these fish can be provided with proper, humane care.

These are the basic needs/a beginner guide for bettas.
Keeping them in small enclosures like this is extremely cruel and often leads to premature death. Very sad. Hope you can convince her to rehome them or get a better setup
Does she use reddit at all? I’m wondering if you could approach the subject like “oh cool! Bettas are really amazing pets. Check out this sub all about people’s bettas.” Idk it’s corny but also, it would be eye opening for her if she genuinely has no idea how cruel this setup is. If she’s a cruel selfish person, maybe the idea of being able to show off her pets and be upvoted would be enough to sway her into better tanks.
