this whole pre assembled bow front is 199 at petsmart

I'm thinking included pieces are crappie like the filter?

leaks?

Also, would this need to be braced to the wall? there would be a light switch behind it so we wish to be able to continue reaching behind the tank.

I live in a house with concrete slab so this would be on the first floor.

just not sure.. maybe should spring 400 more for fluval 32.5. sigh. ultimate goal would be 75 but starting small first.

thanks. l

They’re fine. Its not what I’d have for a permanent setup, but they’re acceptable.

  2. Good Lord that’s how much I paid for my marineland 75g with a stand just 4 years ago…

  3. Nothing sold at a retail store should leak or not be able to hold it’s weight you could sue if either happened. And my petsmart has inspection papers inside it incase there is an issue they’ll know which employee messed up.

I personally like Facebook market for big tanks or sets. I got my 90 gal top and bottom for $200 cuz it was a aquarium building who’s buyer backed out and now they just had to get something back

Side note from what Ive seen bow fronts are drastically more expensive both in retail and Facebook

  4. If your goal is a 75, you’re gonna need to stop pissing and moaning at the 37 gallons. 199 is what you’re gonna spend on a filter for a 75 gallon.

This tank is fine, I have it as a permanent residence for my polar convict cichlids.

As far as level and bracing, is your floor level?

You can brace to the wall, get leveling mats

The tank itself is probably fine, but like you said, these bundles usually don’t come with the best equipment.

  6. I personally don’t like bow front tanks. I had one and eventually gave it away.

My son has this tank. Been up and running for over 8 years now.

I swapped out the filter for a cannister and added different lights that have dawn to dusk settings and a built in timer. No worrying about the light switch ever.

No complaints. It delivers decent value for your dollar.

These kits don’t come with filters (Work at PetSmart). It includes the stand, tank, lid/light and thats it. You will need to purchase a filter, heater, thermometer and other needed items on your own. The stand is overall pretty solid and has some nice commodities to fit a canister filter and shelfs for food and other items.

If you want to get to a 75 eventually, spring for it now. You will have more options on the type of fish you can keep than what you can in a 36. If you are unsure of possible items you might need, petsmart has care guides with recommended items to get. They aren’t perfect and they have their flaws, but they can help you if you are feeling overwhelmed.

Got this one as my first tank it lasted a year then when I moved to my house I bought I go a 75gallon, I replaced the filter and everything that came with it.

Those kits are generally ok. The tag says “includes tank, hood, light and stand” so you’ll still need to buy your own filter and heater. Personally I hate bowfront tanks because the view of the fish is always distorted but I wouldn’t expect the actual tank/stand to have any quality issues.

This is a perfectly acceptable starter tank. Sure the equipment isn’t that great but it’s serviceable and will do just fine.

36 is fine. I’ve had one half a year no issues. Did not get the integral stand

I have this tank. I love it. Buy a power filter and a sponge filter. Mine didn’t come with anything except the stand.
I have a pair of very happy breeding angels in there
