It has been literally months since I got a carp on the fly. Wind has been non forgiving every weekend and even when I get a chance the weather has been playing havoc and pressure up and down as well as temp being cold at night and crazy hot during the day.
Wind was awesome this morning…but the Carp were full of sh*t. I would see a good feed in the distance and paddle all the way there as softly as possible and make a small cast only to be disappointed with a carp that stops feeding the moment the fly hits the water. This was water between 5 and 8 foot.
I eventually managed this lady in 4 foot water with a green fly close to plenty reeds. She made strong runs a few time where I held on so tight I was convinced she would break me but managed to land her eventually weighing 10.18kg.
Not a monster but a very welcome fish after a long drought on the fly.

Very impressive fish! Are you seeing the fish take the fly or feeling it?
That’s exactly why carp are so addictive, those droughts make the eventual success so much sweeter! You’re spot on about the weather playing havoc. Wind direction and barometric pressure changes really mess with their feeding patterns, especially in shallow water where they’re already spooky.
I built an app called Sweather (https://getsweather.com) that scores fishing conditions by weighing factors like wind speed, pressure trends, and temperature stability. It’s helped me avoid those frustrating sessions where everything looks good but the fish just aren’t cooperating.
Congrats on breaking the drought with a solid 10kg fish! DM me if you want a free lifetime promo code.
