Love them. This one looks almost exactly like the one they had in Bozen when I visited a month ago. Same jellyfish species. My SO had to pull me away.

  3. Nice initially but I suspect the reality is they soon become very repetitive and dull.

  4. They’re super cool and relaxing, and very, very difficult to maintain. Nice if you can get a kreisel tank.

I wonder why they’re always bare… I know jelly fish don’t have any braincells, but the bare tanks just feel sad.

I’d love to see jelly fish in properly set up tanks.

The bare ones go in the same bucket as “clown vomit” substrate and neon colors plastic plants… Don’t get me wrong, plastic decor can look good, but majority doesn’t…

I’ve successfully kept a jellyfish tank at home. They are an absolute pain to keep. They are more an animal waiting for an excuse to die in an aquarium and closer to a science experiment than your traditional aquarium keeping. I never lost one and kept them full lifestyle but unless you are a sciency aquarium enthusiast better stay away.

The tanks can be gorgeous especially if you add something like LED lights but they are more similar to a piece of furniture like a lava lamp than a normal fish tank as the Jellyfish can’t really do anything.

Also most species of Jellyfish are venomous and sting so you need to be really careful which species you choose to keep. Even common Jellyfish that “don’t sting” like moon Jellyfish can still sting…speaking from experience.

Overall cool thing to be able to say you did in the hobby but not something I would recommend or go out of my way to do again.

  7. living lava lamp, super cool but out of my depth in size and ability to maintain.

They are fascinating to watch at the Baltimore Aquarium when I go visit, but not anything I’d ever want to try at home.

  9. Not a fan. I get why the water has to swirl around but to me that makes it look “wrong“. Yeah they can be pushed around by currents but that’s not happening 100% of the time and tumbling them around in nature.

They seem like one of those animals that maybe just isn’t meant to be a pet to me.

I would love a jellyfish tank, and it would be the highlight of my aquarium room, but I understand my current limitations. I have taken deep dives on keeping them but they are cost prohibitive due to being relatively new in the hobby and requiring jellyfish specific tanks and filtration, and need a lot of upkeep.
