I’m new to fishing and I just got a new tackle box and I have no clue what this thing is. Can someone explain to me what it is, what it does, and how to use it? It has like a loop on one and and what looks to be a spike or something on the other end.

Fish stringer. I usually put the spike through the bottom of the fishes mouth and out the front and then stick it through the circle and pull tight.

  2. Its a stringer. You put fish on it that you intend to keep. Generally youd start by putting the spike through the gill and out the mouth of the first fish. Then you put the spike through the loop so it stays on. Then you repeat with each fish after that by putting the spike through the gill and out the mouth but no need to put it back through the loop as the first fish will keep the rest on the stringer. Its very important you do not put any fish on this that you do not intend on keeping.

It’s a stringer, used for keeping fish alive that you’re planning to keep later. You thread the pointy bit through the fish’s mouth and out the gills, then through the split ring on the other end to close off the loop.

Next question. What is a fish stringer?

A lone that runs through the mouth and pit the gills of keeper fish so you can carry more than one at a time. Not a tool for catch and release.

That’s a stringer to keep fish after you catch them. You put the metal piece through their gills or mouth then put it through the circle so they can’t get off. Then you keep them in the water while you’re fishing so they stay fresh.

I forget what it’s called and I could be wrong, but it’s so you can keep your catch alive in the water if you plan to keep it. You thread the needle through the gill and mouth, and then through the eyelet and then tie it off somewhere.

    I have _never_ used it.

Jump rope for when the fishing sucks and you need to do something to pass the time.

I always use the pointed part to go through flesh just behind the jaws rather than through the mouth and out the gills. This will keep your fish fresher and also keep the string away from teeth. The second part probably only matters if you are like me fishing walleye and pike and your stringer is older than you are.

  9. Once your fish get too big, it gets kind of hard for carrying by that little rope. But it also doubles as a fishing pole lanyard for when I’m not directly paying attention I’ll loop it through around my pool and either tie it to my canoe or push the steak in the ground, and if my pole gets yanked, it doesn’t disappear.
