Was gifted this rod from my FIL. He got it from a buddy that passed away. Was told it was a custom made rod for some fishing in Alaska. Just looking for some info! TIA

Super awesome rod it’s a 7wt 10ft good for trout and steelhead it could do salmon but that would be a bit light for me personally. Orvis reel is high quality depending on age of storage I would replace the line if it’s stiff.

Winston is a high end rod builder and a very very nice gift.

Would be good for coho, skating flies or nymphing for summer steelhead. Would also be for larger trout.

  3. It looks like a well-finished 10 foot 7 weight fly rod made on a Winston Blank. This is a quality rod. I can’t tell what action it has but it is likely a moderate action designed for salmon or steelhead. A good Alaskan combo. The Orvis reel looks like it matches well. Not their priciest reel but it is a nice one. This outfit would be used to swing streamers, but it would excel at fishing nymph and egg patterns below an indicator because that extra length allows line mending. The maker did well to choose a full wells grip and fighting butt. Nice find! Of course, now you have to go to Alaska.

7 weight rods are very versatile. My go-to for most trout fishing.

Orvis is very expensive stuff and top quality.
