The best way in this situation would be to smash quickly and entirely. Or go to the store.

But yeah she doesn’t look pregnant you might have to go get some clove oil

You could try treatment, it is rare but some fish it make it with Dropsy. Treatment is,

1-put fish in hospital tank right away

2-add epsom salts in hospital tank to reduce bloating and pressure on the internal organs

    3-use Kanaplex treatment next

If not forsure use the clove oil if you are not up for treatment. It is rare for a fish to survive Dropsy. It sucks unfortunately it is part of the hobby.

I’ve done clove oil caused the fish to have seizure until it eventually killed itself by smashing its head into the wall. As someone who has been fishing his whole life im pretty sure it’s just as humane to smash or chop the head off.

Yes. In the shop we used to grab the fish, quickly as possible stick it in paper towel and stomp on them. Horrible I know.

Most effective euthanasia for fish is blunt force to the head.

Consider treating while understanding the odds of success are against.

For euthanasia, it’s the hardest thing to do in this hobby, IMO, and it’s what we obligate ourselves to handle when worse comes to worse.

I’ll usually catch them and put them in tabk water container so parameters are the same, then when I’m ready, take them somewhere quiet, quickly put them in a wet paper towel noting where their head is, put them on the ground and swing a hammer. It minimizes suffering.

Then I have a moment of silence and a stiff drink because I’m sad as hell after.

And thankfully I haven’t had to do it in at least eight months now.

  7. Clove oil isn’t a humane way to euthanize anabantoids because they don’t rely as heavily on their gills.

The most humane way for any fish to go is blunt force to the head. Grab a wet paper towel to wrap the fish in, then put it in a plastic bag and hit it with a hammer or mallet.
