Unfortunately he passed at around 10pm today. This morning I noticed some white looking fuzz/strands on his tail. I thought it was a fungal infection, so I put him in a hospital tank and dosed paraguard. By evening he was very lethargic. Only staying near the surface for air, extremely labored breathing, and started laying sideways. I went to do some stuff and my mom called me back because it seemed like he was almost gone. She said when she tapped the glass he darted up once, but when I got there he was no longer breathing. Looking at his body after, I noticed some grey/yellow-ish discoloration on his body along with fuzz. It could've been columnaris which could explain the quick decline.

I'm so glad he got to live his last days with me. He made me laugh when I first put him in the tank because he stopped and stared at the piece of wood like O.O for a solid minute. It was so exciting seeing him stare at a plant like :O!! And today his tail unfurled!! It was an absolute joy seeing him perk up. Unfortunately with the ammonia poisoning, fin rot, and possible fungal infection or columnaris, he was dealt a bad start.

I said I wasn't gonna name him just in case he didn't make it, but I actually already had a name in mind. I was gonna name him "Hoshi" (星) which means "star". It's similar to the word "hoshii" (欲しい) which means "wish". Together it would mean "wishing upon a star". Which perfectly describes how I felt when I got him. I truly wished he would have recovered. Now I wish that he's swimming in peace and is no longer in pain. Swim among the stars, lil buddy!

You gave him such a beautiful life in his last days! I’m so sorry for the loss, but I’m so happy that his passing was while he was loved and cared for. May he swim among the starry night skies forevermore 💛✨

Swim in peace little guy. Sadly I agree, I think the awful conditions he was in prior were just too damaging for him to overcome. 😔

This is a link to pictures of the fuzz on his tail and body.

Imgur was being a pain and wouldn’t let me upload. I only noticed the patches today and I’m confident it wasn’t there yesterday. The fuzz on his tail looks like white almost translucent strands. The patch on his body is kinda a fuzzy clump? The white/grey/yellow patches is what confuses me the most. Maybe someone can give me some clarification as to what it is?
