Hello I’m brand new to fly fishing. My girlfriend got me a fly fishing advent calendar from some fly company last December and today it’s 70 degrees and cloudy, I want to try to get some fish today.
I have a really cheap set up, it’s just a Martin fly rod kit, no other special weights or lines or stuff like that. Just the shitty pole, reel and the line it came with. But now I have all these new flies and I have no idea what they are and how I should use them…
I know some basic casting mechanics and where to look in the water but other than that I’m really under educated with knowledge about flies. If anyone could tell me what some of these are and how I should use them with my set up? (I know how to use the worms lol)
I’m going to fish on a really popular trout stream in Rochester NY. The creek water has been fast and muddy this past week, but yesterday it’s started to calm down a bit further down stream. Hopefully today I can catch my first!
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!! 🐟
