The t-bone and a short bed has been more than enough for me.
I was worried I made a mistake of not going for a longer bed but I’ve never run into problems making a bed extender work. Always feel secure and have driven a couple thousand miles with various amounts of kayaks, never more than pictured.
Eventually I’d like to invest in a rack so the bed can be used for more storage, on longer trips.
Right now I travel with few one piece rods in a pvc tube tucked on the bottom of the pile and strapped down by itself.

T-Bone!!
That’s maximizing space for sure.
Ladder Rack is the peak in hauling. You can mount your rod tube, your boats, and carry the rest of your gear in the bed
Having moved from a Silverado to a canyon this makes me feel a lot better about fitting my compass and my wife’s riviera in the bed.
