I was out today just before cyclone Vaianu hits NZ, up this tiny feeder stream 10 minutes out of town. I spent 2 hours achieving nothing except a lost nymph. I tried moving spots 100 meters downstream, and within my first 2 casts, I caught a little 1lb trout, which, from what i read, is about as big as the trout get in this stream. my gosh, the fight, the breaching out of the water, it was such a gorgeous fish and so thrilling. I finally understand it, the joy of fly fishing.
I kept it in the net in flowing the water the whole time EXCEPT to take a quick picture, but im always open to learn if I shouldnt have done this.
I just wish I got better photos showing off its colour, lol
