How do they expect people to use this thing? These Tatula don’t have the traditional tension knob therefore your spool can just freewheel if you have the bail release pressed. Like just the line on the spool and the damn thing rotates and birdsnests. Charging lure would be a fucking disaster on the water. Should I return this and get a Curado? I’m new to bait casting and this is going to be a headache. I’ve used other bait casters with the traditional knob and this doesn’t happen with a knob setup.

You sir, have major line twist.
Looks like the line isn’t even. Probably spooled incorrectly and line is twisted and/or uneven. User error not reel issue is what it looks like to me.
I’m a little confused. There looks like there is a tension knob right by the drag star. You said you are new to bait casters but you also used other ones before? How familiar are you with using them? I remember learning to use mine and it was a nightmare until I figured out to basically never do that – let the spool free spin without my thumb on it. Watch some videos maybe? Baitcasters can be a bitch.
Your tension/brake is too low. Play with it.
Just took my Tatula out and loosened it all and it did the same thing
Um, it does have a spool tension knob!
Like others have said, the tension knob is most likely loose. If your line is correctly spooled, put in a lure and tighten the tension until the lure stops falling straight down. Loosen the tension knob until your lure begins falling at about 1ft/sec. Give that a shot and fine tune it to your liking. Also make sure you set the brakes. It’s not the reel’s fault don’t return it unless you can’t seem to figure out a baitcaster. User error at that point.
I’m guessing you don’t have a lure on.
Instead of cranking down a tension knob and free spooling to get line out, you should loosen the drag knob and pull as much line out as you need to tie on a lure. Once tied on, tighten the drag knob again and you are good to go.

This guy walks through it.
Daiwa reels are set with zero tension. U should be fine. Use your thumb to stop the spool right before lure hits the water after a cast.
