Obligatory "I am on mobile, apologies in advance for formatting" disclaimer!
I've been keeping fish for almost a year and a half, and I've lurked on this sub for about a year. I recently finished stocking my 55-gallon, and I am so thrilled with how it looks and wanted to share it!
The tank is still fairly new, and the plants have lots of growing to do, but I look forward to seeing how everything grows and evolves. Hidden beneath the tick sand cap layer is a plentiful amount of aquasoil to provide nutrients for root feeders, and I dose the water column with Seachem Flourish weekly to feed my epiphytes.
I have a 24-hour daylight cycle-simulating light that does a fantastic job of creating a smooth lighting cycle, and both the fish and plants have been responding well to it (I wish I'd had one of these when I had my small tank, the on-off was so abrupt with the old light and stressed the poor fish…)
The tank stand is also custom built by my incredibly kind and dedicated father, and I can share photos of it in the comments if folks are interested in seeing it.
The tank is stocked with:
– 6 GloFish tetras
– 12 neon tetras
– 12 harlequin rasboras
– 2 otocinclus (I know there should be more of them, I'm working on that. As soon as my LFS has them again, I plan to add 2 more)
– 1 gold blue-eye bristlenose pleco (his name is Steve le poisson… if you know, you know)
– 4 sterbai corydoras
– 3 false julii corydoras (I plan to add 1 more, just waiting for my LFS to stock them)
– 6 kuhli loaches
– 4 rabbit snails (1 yellow spotted, 2 orange volcano, 1 blue)
Plant list:
– Hygrophila corymbosa 'Compact'
– Cryptocoryne crispatula
– Bucephalandra pygmaea 'Bukit Kelam'
– Microsorum pteropus
– Anubias barteri 'Coin Leaf'
– Anubias barteri 'Petite'

Should aim for closer to 10-20 total otocinclus catfish. If you want them to display natural behavior 4 wouldn’t be enough for a tank that size.
