It’s a 40L tank with 6 ember tetra in it, I’ve been planing on getting some more little fish for it. Are there any fish that will eat them? Or like some product that will kill the but not my snails? It’s been pissing me off so much!

  1. Planaria removal.

Few shrimp safe fish eat them. Manual removal traps don’t work for long.

There are two most common methods provided below.

The first one will make it uninhabitable for certain snails and will need carbon to remove remaining residues. Fine, if you don’t plan on keeping snails but not good advice for everyone.

As one of the most common choice given on here would be No Planaria because of the name. However, the issue is with that and some similar products, the main ingredient is betel nut extract a carcinogenic. This has very bad effects on certain snails so mystery, nerite etc are out of the question for months after treatment.
As the ingredients can be vague the potent value is unknown.

The better product in my opinion and usually cheaper too is the following.

Fenbendazole ingredient in Panacur C or Safe-Guard dog dewormer, goats and equine store.

Dosage for 222mg strength for powder granule form 0.1g per 10 US gallons water. Mix with hot water.

Alternatively Safe-Guard goat dewormer liquid form 100mg strength. Shake well before use. Mix 1ml medication to 9ml water. Add 1ml mixture for every 2 US gallons water.

Remove fancy snails like apple, mystery, nerite, rabbit, sulawesi and assassin during treatment.

Aso kills, hydra, leech and water fleas.

Safe for fish, shrimp, amazon dwarf frogs, common snails ramshorn, pond, bladder and mts. A dewormer for fish.

Gravel vac/water change 3 days after treatment and repeat treatment 12 to 14 days later.

As always, do research before using anything as everyone has different things in their aquarium.

Planaria can regenerate from small segments, will eat snail and fish eggs. Slime trail stuns shrimps. Kill shrimplets and freshly molted shrimp. Frozen bloodworm is a potential source of eggs as well as contaminated live foods.

Praziquantel is another treatment that should work with snails such as mystery.

  2. I have seen Angelfish eat them. But angelifish could also attack ember tera. Using an empty bottle with a small piece of meat inside to set a trap for them is the most effective way to remove them out of you tank. They are more active at night, so you can set the trap at night and check the bottle in the morning.
