So I the title really, I bought a little holder for them and cleaned the roots free from the packaged soil and plopped them in a jug of water for a few days and they seemed to not change so now I’ve put them in my fish tank. My thoughts are that they can grab nutrients from the fish water and their roots can travel and grow from that? ( I cut a hole on the bottom of the holder so the roots aren’t sealed )

Google said it was okay but I’d like to get advice from actual people and their own experiences, So is this okay for my pothos plant to survive? Do I need to alter anything?

  1. As long as the roots are submerged but the leaves aren’t, you are great! The roots will take up nutrients from the water and pothos don’t need to be in soil to thrive. You just want to make sure leaves aren’t out of the water as those will die and rot in the water. Looks great!

The Google ai that told you it’s okay was drawing information from reddit posts of people who’ve tried it already.. Yes. It will be fine and do it’s Job

They will do just fine, really. Just be aware that the tank in question will have to be refilled with water more often. And that they can suck up so much nutrients your other plants might suffer from this if you don’t dose ferts in it -but if you don’t add ferts already, give it a try without for a few months before changing your routine-.

I use to propagate Photos and Monsteras by putting the cuttings in a glass of water, works really great to get nice roots.

I recently added a pair of pothos cuttings to my little brother’s tank, and the roots are almost fully submerged, and the plants are thriving! I used an old pudding cup as a temporary pot, and I plan on getting a proper pot like yours OP soon.
