This thing has appeared in two separate fish tanks I own. I was under the impression for months that it was a slime mold, but Google images show it's a "Bryozoan".

It clearly enjoys my tanks, so I'd like to know if it is beneficial or more of a pest? It's kinda scary-looking, but if it's for the greater good of the aqua pets, I will let it stay rent-free.

Super cool and probably beneficial those fluffy bits are used to pull food out of the water column like mussels. Just means your water has lots of a micro food source they enjoy. I think it’s pretty rare and cool!
