Montana angler looking for rod advice.

I bought my first new rod about two years ago, a 9’ 5wt TFO Blue Ribbon. It’s a great dry fly rod and handles smaller nymph rigs fine, but it lacks power on bigger water and with bigger flies.

Last year I bought a 9’ 7wt TFO Axiom 2X, primarily as a streamer rod. It’s great for big flies and sinking line. Fast, powerful, exactly what I wanted.

After buying a raft this year and spending more time fishing bigger rivers, stillwater, and from the boat, I feel there’s a gap in my lineup. I’m considering a 9’6” 6wt rod for bigger nymph rigs, salmonflies, hoppers, boat fishing, and wading big water. Perhaps most importantly, I think it would serve as a killer all around rod for long wade days on medium and large rivers.

Do you think a 6’6” 6wt would be a logical addition to the trout quiver? Would you buy a second spool and floating line for the 7wt before pulling the trigger on another rod? Any other length/weight combos I should consider?

While I’ve gravitated towards TFOs for their affordability and ease of section replacement, I’m slowly warming up to the idea of a more expensive rod.

Cheers
