Been trying to make this happen for a couple years. The swing arms and outriggers are new for me this year and made a big difference in the quality of the setup for night-time bow fishing.
I forgot to bring bug spray and it was one of the worst mosquito experiences of my life, I counted about 200 mosquito bites in ~1.5 hours the night I landed this fish.
And despite some warnings I heard and feared, it’s great eating! After trimming away the thin layer of “red meat”, what was left fried up well and tasted excellent. Still have plenty left, but it won’t last long. Maybe not _quite_ as good as walleye/perch, but it’s right up there with other white fish meat as far as I’m concerned.
It looks like the fish I got had an old injury to its rostrum, I speculate it was from a boat prop. At first I thought I damaged it pulling the fish into the boat but it was rigid and the skin had clearly fully healed in that area.
A really cool and unique experience and one I’m grateful for.
