I recently purchased a 36-gallon Top Fin aquarium. This is my first planted tank, so keeping live plants is completely new to me. After getting everything set up, I realized the light built into the hood was not strong enough to support healthy plant growth.
I ordered a #hygger Advanced Remote Control Aquarium Light, but it was slightly too wide for the hood. Using a Dremel, I carefully trimmed the sections marked in red and cut the mounting brackets.
Next, I ordered outdoor cord and cable holders. I have used the same type for several years, and they have held up well through humid summers and cold winters. I slipped the cut brackets into the holders to secure the light in place, then added my own beads of aquarium-safe silicone to help prevent moisture from getting into the modified areas.
It has been installed for about a week now. The light gives off very little heat, there has been no movement, and both the clips and the light remain firmly secured.
The tank is doing well so far. At the moment, it contains only shrimp and live plants.
