Despite fishing with multiple rods, carp anglers rarely experience double takes, but when they do, it can certainly cause a bit of bankside chaos.
They generally tend to occur on waters that are highly stocked, with fish averaging around double figures, and landing both is usually a challenge. You can therefore imagine the sheer disbelief, when Harli Oxton managed to land this staggering brace of carp totalling 97lb!
The 16-year-old was out fishing on Lac Solace in France when the drama unfolded. He was in the process of playing what felt like a good fish when his second rod tore off, resulting in a truly memorable trip for the young angler.

This fish alone would have made the trip!
“I went over to France with real confidence of catching some carp, but the session wasn’t unfolding the way I had initially hoped. In fact, I really struggled to get any indications at the start of the trip and was beginning to worry I might blank,” Harli explained to us.
“However, I kept fishing and watching the water and noticed a few signs of fish in my swim that I wasn’t targeting, so I quickly made the change to put some rigs into that zone in the hope it might change my fortunes,” he added.
With renewed confidence, Harli reloaded his bait boat with a small amount of loose offerings and two of his trusty spinner rigs, placing them into the area where he had seen the carp jumping. It proved to be the right decision, as just a few hours later, his alarm burst into life.
THE BEST BIVVIES ARE PERFECT FOR LONGER SESSIONS ON THE BANK…

“It was about 7am and I was into my first fish of the trip, and the fish was certainly doing its best to avoid having its picture taken,” he said.
“Unbelievably, just as I was about to net it, the other rod screamed off. With some help from my dad, he quickly netted the first fish, put it in a retainer, and got the landing net ready for the next one.
“I didn’t have time to process the massive fish in the net as I lifted into the second one. Thankfully, it came in like a dream and was a similar size to the one I already had sat in my net. I was completely speechless,” Harli recalled.
“After having a moment to calm down, we got the fish on the scales, and when they read 50lb and 47lb respectively, I just knew I would remember this trip for life.”
