NEW BERN, N.C. — Several construction and maintenance projects are moving forward across New Bern’s Ward 1, according to Alderman Trey Ferguson.
Ferguson said milling and paving on Hancock Street are complete, except for the Johnson Street intersection. Crews are expected to address a stormwater pipe and complete work at that intersection.
The downtown crosswalk project at Pollock and Middle streets is also continuing. Walls are being poured and steel reinforcement is being installed, according to Ferguson. He said the project remains on schedule.
Work is also progressing on the fishing pier parking area. Ferguson said curbing, backfilling and cleanup have been completed. Utility work and paving are the next steps, along with connecting a new storm drain system to the city’s network.
Ferguson also highlighted ongoing city maintenance work across Ward 1, including street sweeping, tree trimming and stormwater maintenance.
Meanwhile, New Bern’s Historic Preservation Commission has completed its review of public, staff and commissioner feedback on proposed Historic District Design Principles and Standards.
The commission is scheduled to consider adopting the final standards on Oct. 21. A Planning Board public hearing is expected to follow on Nov. 12.
