A man has gone viral on social media for showing his unsettling discovery he made on a random roadside while fishing with a magnet. With his video, he demonstrated that pulling over on roadsides may not be as safe as it seems.
If Batman Had Magnets, @ifbatmanhadmagnets on Instagram and @gloomjr on TikTok, is a social media creator whose content focuses on him collecting metal on roadsides with a magnet-fishing device.
The front of his tool is a “clicking plate” that he himself created so that the objects he collected would make noises when they stuck to his magnet.
According to him, his goal is to do this until he has “enough followers to be a stay-at-home dad.”
Most of his videos follow the same format. He goes out and walks through a roadside with his device, and then goes back to his house to show all of the things he’s collected, as well as their total weight.
He’s gone viral multiple times, and in his latest viral video, he shows just how many nails can be found on one roadside. The video garnered over 4.1 million views on Instagram and 1.5 million views on TikTok in less than a week, as well as hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of comments.
“You would think it was safe to pull over on this grass,” he says, while walking and trailing his magnet fisher on the roadside.
He continues walking, filming his device clicking as it collects metal. “Day 90 of magnet fishing the road till I have enough followers to be a stay-at-home dad,” says the text over the video.
After a bit of walking, he grabs the device and turns it over, showing that he’d collected a bunch of nails with it. “I don’t know that I would think that,” he says, referring to his earlier comment.
“You wanna know why you keep getting flat tires?” he says, resuming his walk. He then cuts to a moment where his device started clicking increasingly often, meaning that he was collecting many items.
“No way,” he says, disbelieving, as the nails pile up and begin to poke out from the sides of the device. “No, no!” he says, laughing. “Woah!” he shouts, a concerning amount of nails poking out.
He turns the device around to show the truly shocking amount of nails he’d collected in such a short strip of the roadside. “This is so dumb!” he exclaims.
Cutting to another section of the roadside, he says, “Really quickly, gonna teach you a thing or two though,” he says while walking along the road. “If you have to pull over, never pull over after a turn; also never pull over before a turn. Always wanna park where cars are not accelerating, slowing down, or turning,” he states. “There’s a bridge; don’t park after it,” he adds.
“If I can keep one mama from getting a flat in the rain, that is good enough for me, homie,” he says, walking on the grass.
Then, the video cuts to his workshop, where he is dumping his findings on a table. “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for what’s in that bucket!” he says, as text that reads the last four words appears over the video.
“I don’t like this one,” he says, as he gathers the objects. “Starting off strong with one chunky ratchet, two feet of bubble wrap I picked up with my hand, one USB drive, one screwdriver, one tiny dinosaur I picked up with my hand,” he says, showing these items as he lists them.
He continues to list items, holding them up to the camera. When it’s time to count the nails he found, he places them in a red bucket and says that there are “approximately 2,900 of these little nails, measured by weight.”
He then continued to list all the other metal items he found that day, and then came the moment to weigh them all. With all the items in the red bucket, he placed it on a scale and stated that they weighed a whopping 7 pounds and 8 ounces.
In the comments, people were shocked at the amount of nails he’d found, with many joking that they were left there on purpose.
