Matt Robertson won the Champions Tournament on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee, with a final-day bag of 20 pounds, 2 ounces and a three-day total of 56 pounds, 1 ounce, earning a first-place payout of $1.25 million — the largest in professional bass fishing history. According to an article via Outdoor Life, the event, staged by first-year operator World Bass Enterprises with a $3.25 million purse, was designed to settle an eight-year-old question left open since the sport split into the Bassmaster Elite Series and the MLF Bass Pro Tour.

The field combined the top 25 anglers in Angler of the Year points from each tour, plus “win and you’re in” qualifiers and two random-draw entrants, split into Team Stars (Elite) and Team Stripes (MLF); Stars claimed the team trophy. Forward-facing sonar was divided evenly, with anglers choosing one day each to fish with and without it before the final 15 received three hours of sonar use on Saturday with weights reset. Robertson finished nearly seven pounds ahead of second-place Pake South at 13-07, while Wesley Strader (11-02) took $300,000 for third, followed by Trey McKinney ($200,000), Michael Neal ($100,000), Ron Nelson ($75,000) and Fisher Anaya ($60,000).

The payout dwarfed the combined purses of the Bassmaster Classic and the MLF Redcrest, raising pointed questions about whether the two established tours could adopt a similar pay-per-view or subscription model to increase earnings for their anglers. Attendance and streaming viewership, notable given the event’s calendar placement, indicated demand for a unified championship had gone unserved, while World Bass Enterprises has not announced details of a 2027 edition.
