Gearing up for my trip to MD in a month, and I use these all the time in freshwater, and wonder if they’d work for fluke/bluefish/saltwater fish?

  1. They just get bit in half. I prefer using weighted jigheads and separate swimbaits since I have to swap them out so often.

I’m more likely to use a hard plastic like an SP Minnow or a metal spoon.

  2. Some use them on the Left Coast for Halibut. Smaller creature baits and curlytails are common for Perch, Stripers, Corbina etc.

  3. These stupid things are the biggest scam in fishing and insanely wasteful. Throw the whole thing out if the tail gets bit off. Jig head, paddletail, and super glue. Done. If the jig head had a collar throw a mini zip tie around the nose of the paddletail for a much longer lasting bait. At least til the toothy fish show up.

Great for stripers in the northeast, bluefish also like them so i tend to only use them if blues arent around in force.

More efficient to use a jig head with a soft plastic on it so you arent retying all the time if toothy critters are around
