I caught this fish in Northern-Central Illinois in 2016. I fish a lot and have never seen another one. He was maybe 5.5 to 7 inches long. I caught him on a small ball of bread on the bottom in a spot where a small stream enters a pond like pool of water but the pond is connected to a river so its not really a pond. I have had people tell me Asian carp, but that dosent look right to me. I have also heard Common or Striped shiner and it does look the most similar but I have never found a picture where the shape of the body is the same. After 8 years of wondering I decided to reach out to reddit. His body was flat like a panfish.
