I’ve been bitten hard by the surfcasting bug and have spent the last month reading everything I can, researching/buying gear and wandering Bolsa Chica, HB, Redondo and San Clemente beaches like fiend. I’ve bought all of the known-to-perform swimbaits, plastics and spoons and have had some success on barred perch, a few halibuts and some sea monster that headed straight for Japan with all of my line and tried to take me with it.
Im big into having the right tools for a job (aka, I’m a gear-HO lol), what am I missing, or favorite manufacturers aside, what did I purchase that would have been money better spent on a different series or rod and reel?

Penn Battle III 2500 on a 11’-0” Okuma Rockaway RA-S 8-17lb, 1/2-2oz RA-S1102ML spooled with 8lb P-Line CXX mono with a 15lb Seagar Flouro leader
