So, this is one of the stories you just can't make up. Today, I to the grand kids swimming at a lake. There was a little dock there to fish off of and after enduring a rain storm I got my UL rig out and through it out with some yellow corn on it. I was also fishing with a my wife's rig for sunfish around the base of the dock. I was about three from my other rod which was leaned up against the railing around the dock. Here is a picture of the dock
I had just caught and released a sunfish on my wife's rod when I saw my line go right on my UL rod. The fish must have been at full throttle, because the tip bent and the rod flew up into the air and shot out into the water almost before I could move. At the last instant, I lunge to try to grab it before it cleared the edge of the dock but I was way too late. However, I was carrying my expensive smartphone in the br ast pocket of my shirt and my speed and inertia caused it to fly out of my pocket and into the lake.
I could see my phone sinking in the clear water, so in a flash, I cleared the railing and jumped in after it fully clothed. I thought I might catch it as it was falling, but I forgot I had sum glasses on and when I went under water I could see nothing.
So fast was my jump over the rail that it slung my $100 Gerber multi-tool out of my unsnapped leather side holster. Not too mintion that I had my wallet and my covert CC in my pockets as well.
So, in the span of a couple seconds I had lost a $200 UL rod combo, a $700 Smartphone and a $100 multi-tool.
The water was about 12 feet deep by the dock, but has about 4 feet of some kind of water reed like grass growing off the bottem. After a lot of diving and foraging through this dark thick mess, I recovered my phone and multi-tool. I then went wade casting with a weight and treble hook around the shore line and eventually snagged my line and got my rod back and even caught the fish that caused the whole problem. He was not a big fish but it sure made for a great story. đ
The image of me holding the fish out in the water was shot by a bystander because my phone was off.
