After concentrating on surfing and not fishing for about 15+ years, I want to fish again. This is what I've got. Two old Shakespeare rods one 7' one 10'. One 20+ year old Shimano reel.
I'm thinking I need to put the reel on the 10 footer to cast farther out. What should I put on the 7 footer? I'm mostly going to be using drop rigs, I might put a fish finder rig on the bigger one if I'm feeling froggy.
Everything will get new braid, probably 20lb on the Shimano.
Am I wasting energy with this old stuff?

What region are you in? I only ask because I’m in SoCal and not familiar with the east coast or the species there.
I have surfed for over 60y on the west coast as well 😉
