I bought this box to hold my steelhead and salmon flies but it’s a bit thinner than I anticipated and I think it’s crushing my flies too much. Lmk what you think.

  1. At the end of the day, it’s up to you and what you’re comfortable and confident with. But the only flies I’d be worried about getting crushed are dries. These should go back to form once they’re wet.

  2. Not to jack, but anyone got a recommendation for a *deep* fly box. I need something to keep fatty terrestrial flies in.

Big foam flies, size 6 chubby Chernobyls and the like.

I try to keep dry flies in segmented boxes, mostly because the hackle and feathers flatten or take on weird positions over time. But streamers, nymphs, and stuff like super pupa or perdigons get economy class seating.

No, srsly. It’s fine, you’re going to eventually wet even the most eloquent Mikael Frödin Samurai and it will never again look like it did when it was tied.

If you don’t fish your flies it becomes a problem.
