I'm flying on Delta with two rods in their cases inserted into my backpack. Will Delta let me carry this on?

  1. I flew delta to Montana last summer but only brought 1 rod with me. My backpack has a nifty strap on the side so my rod tube was attached a bit better. I had no issues getting through but I’d check with them to be safe

  2. I flew Delta with a single rod case this past summer and had no issues. It fit in the overhead easily even if the overhead was “full”. My buddy flew with his rod case strapped to his backpack and also had no issues.

i fit two rods in each one of those tubes and tape the two tubes together to make “one” personal item. then it fits into straps on the side of my carry-on backpack. never had any issues usually on delta or american

  4. I’ll pack my rods in my checked bags, risky I know, otherwise if I’m carrying rods on I’ll put them in the water bottle holder of a backpack and strap them onto my backpack.

  5. I just got back a few minutes ago from a trip to Florida. I’ve always carried on and given to the flight attendant to put in the area they have for coats to be hung. Have never once had an issue

  6. I’ve got a giant TFO roller bag with 3 rod holders. Great for long trips with a ton of gear, but a pain to lug around. I’ve never really settled on anything for smaller packs.

  7. I flew from us to Canada with 2 rod tubes strapped to the side of my North Face backpack duffel (carry on size). It’s technically outside of the allowed dimensions, but no issues at security or at the gate.

If they say anything at the gate I bet you could just say you won’t put the rods in overhead and hold them the whole flight. But you never know

My mom’s a delta flight attendant. I just sent her the picture and asked her. Thats 1 (one) personal item. You’re good homie.
